Story of Anna and the King

Author: Cecelia Holland
Average review score:

Perfect 'Anna' book!!
Being obsessed with all things 'Anna', I had to have this book, just because its about 'Anna'. But I can't believe how cool it is beyond that. It is a behind the scenes guide, beautiful, glossy picture book, and well-researched, informative, awesome history lesson in one. It totally quenched my need for 'Anna'!! I reccomend this to fans, historians and movie buffs alike. Ceccelia Holland is brilliant; you can tell she really thought about this and did her homework. My copy is priceles to me. Please get this!

An Excellent Book!
If you enjoyed "Anna and the King," I think you will love this book. It is filled with huge glossy photos, many of them close-ups of Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat as well as the beautiful sets and landscapes. It contains tons of historical background information on the movie and makes for a very interesting read. I highly recommend it.

Fascinating
I really didn't expect too much out of this book. But I was quite pleasantly surprised to find myself thoroughly enjoying it. It gives background to so many of the customs and questions about Siam. It was very interesting to read because it made the story of Anna and the King more understandable and easier to relate to. It gives real story behind each character, but it also explains where this movie came from. If you enjoyed the movie, this is the book to get. It has a lot of awesome pictures, and it tells how the story developed from the true story to a wonderful tale. I think everyone understands that the movie isn't very true, so this book is perfect for learning the truth, and also learning more about the movie. If that's what you're looking for...here it is!

Strange Comments

A review of Strange Comments
This work summarizes Dr. King's philosophy, as a historian, reflecting upon thoughts covering a lifetime of study. It is well-written in an easy flowing manner with a little wit and much wisdom. It seems to serve the purpose of a double-edge sword, cutting through humor with deep thought.
I enjoyed his lively portrayal of modern history given in item 66: "What fine people we are until we consider what our history has been. Take the 20th century, another century of devastation."
Comments by D. Moore, Roman Historian

Memorable gnomic sentences
Frank P.King's "Strange Comments" are reflections based on his own experience of life, passing abruptly from idea to idea, subject to subject, "on topics most of us are concerned about." At whatever page the work is opened the reader will find some wise thought expressed in vivid and memorable gnomic sentences. There is no systematic composition; the arrangement of themes or ideas is haphazard, and the subjects dealt with have little connection with the title. An insightful and delightful little book.

Thought Provoking
I find the content of the book Strange Comments to be extremely stimulating and thought provoking. It is the type of book that can be used in the classroom as well as by scholars and entrepreneurs to stimulate thought in assisting one to face reality when making efficient business or lifelong decisions. This is the first book that I have seen that does not only provide the student or reader with a wealth of profound knowledge of situations, but it also provides insight into many historical notions that can actually be used to enhance decision making in planning a course of action.

Due to the method in which the book is laid out and the numerical accounting of phrases, one can easily annotate ideas in which he or she may wish to use or revisit in those moments of question. The book contains a wealth of knowledge for centering situations to be viewed in their true essence. On numerous occasions the book gives one the comfort of knowing that he or she is not alone in many conflicting situations and that much of what confronts us today is but a daily dose of history. I would definitely recommend the reviewing of this book by students, scholars, and business professionals.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible
Published in Hardcover by Abingdon Press (September, 1986)
Author: James Strong
Average review score:

FANTASTIC!
Any bible student will love having this fantastic concordance.
I learned so much from being able to cross reference all parts
of the Old and New Testament to my hearts desire, in 3 ancient
languages. It's easy to use, it is absolutely comprehensive, and
I know I learned more about the Bible in a year than some people
who have studied the Bible for 20 years. Even if you just have
a proud home library of reference books, this should be in it.

the next book to buy after your Bible
I am surprised that there aren't more reviews on this book. Next to your Bible, a concordance and a Bible dictionary are the two most likely candidates for serious students of the Word, and Strong's Exhaustive Concordance is by far the most popular concordance, hands down. Whenever I do a study, you can be assured that I use the concordance to either look up verses, find out how many times a word is used, or find the basic meaning of a word in the original language. As a concordance it is great, but for word studies you will probably need a dictionary or lexicon that will give greater detail in their definitions. But this should not stop you from purchasing the book, because almost all other modern references now use the Strong's numbering system. So, start with Strong's, use it as your concordance and do use it for the basic definitions, but then as you progress you can purchase other reference volumes that will give you more information but will still utilize the same numbering system. Although the hardback is tremendous, I prefer the softcover edition. It is not as large and bulky, usually costs less, and it can fit inside of your briefcase.

Study the Original Bible text w/o knowing Hebrew or Greek
Strong's Concordance is the bridge for non-Hebrew/Greekspeaking students of the Bible to be able to study the meanings of thewords of the original Hebrew and Greek texts of the Old and New Testament. The concise appendix dictionary of Hebrew and Greek word definitions is a good place to start, but other lexicons are more thorough, such as (1) Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament and (2) Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament.

Strong's is the standard for word numbering used by most lexicons. What James Strong could have never fathomed is that the numbering of the words of the Bible in their alphabetical sequence actually corresponds to modern-day numbers, such as years, addresses, phone numbers, places which are key to the latter-day fulfilment of the covenants. It is James Strong who was the unwitting instrument of this uncanny miracle of God.

To Strike at a King: The Turning Point in the McCarthy Witch-Hunt

Authors: Michael Ranville and Mike Ranville

Restore your faith in justice - READ THIS BOOK
OK, so I am biased because Milo Radulovich is my cousin, but speaking as an (amateur) historian, I can say this is book is excellently researched. Michael Ranville gives you not only an incredible story of the "little man in turbulent times" (which is an incredible way to learn history) but also places the chronology of the Radulovich story against other US & World events of the time, giving the book a depth and range that many stories written in this fashion lack. This book is also fascinating from the perspective of the immigrants and "third culture kids" who shaped (and continue to shape) the American vision. This book is a must-read if you teach or study American history 1945-Present professionally. I wish everyone could meet Milo Radulovich; his courage then AND now, and that of the entire family, shines.

Great book on family honor
Mr. Radulovich is an inspiration on the value of family honor and loyality in our society.

Milo Radulovich an American Hero!
This is an awesome inspirational book! It's remarkable proof that one determined individual can make a difference and that "when you're right you have to stand up for yourself or you're dead". I plan on making sure my kids read and sharing with my friends.

An Act of Faith
Published in Paperback by P'taah - Light Source Publishing (March, 1901)
Authors: Jani King and P'taah
Average review score:

Captivating, most rings true in my heart.
I read this book 3 years ago and it has changed my way of thinking, reacting, and living. It put into words most of what I believed to be true but was always to busy to think about. When I apply the beliefs brought forth in this book which ring true to me (and they are many) it brings about a feeling of total freedom. This is an incredible book and I continue to read it to this day.

"Wondrous!"
"Wondrous" seems to be one of P'taah's favorite expressions and it certainly well defines the content of this book. If it doesn't powerfully alter your life in a more joyous and life-celebrating direction, I can't imagine what would. P'taah delivers his powerful yet simple truths with the warmest sense of humour and most unconditional love I have ever encountered. A most recommended reading.

When you are ready for it, the book might change your life
This book is a series of lectures/questions and answers as channelled through the author by an ET from the Paleides star group. Sounds way out there but, if you are ready to hear what he has to say, your life will change. Your whole perception of reality and the way you think it works will never be the same. Take a chance and read this book

Ap Calculus
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (August, 1996)
Authors: Cliffs Notes and Kerry King
Average review score:

AP Calc Test Coming Up? BUY THIS BOOK!
To prepare for the AP Calc test I bought two books: Cliff's AP Calc and Barron's AP Calc Review. I found this book much easier to understand, with comprehensive tests that include free-response questions. Also, the topics and tests were very similar to those presented on the test. As for the Barron's version, I looked at it for about an hour and never picked it up again; it was very hard to understand and had no practice free-response questions. Obviously, this is the better buy. When I took the test, I felt very confident and was able to do almost every question- although the results have yet to come in, I think I did very well. My best advice is to buy this book early and use it to complement your calc class. Your grades (both in class and on the AP test) will surely reflect this extra effort.

my calc teacher wrote this book!
my calc teacher wrote this book! neat huh

The one to have for the AP exam and throughout the year!
I really enjoyed working with this book. I bought it at the beginning of the year and very glad I did. It helped me prepare for every test, quiz, and even homeworks. It has a wonderful "translation" section where calculus terms are explained in plain english. Topic by topic the book is thorough in the explanations. What I liked most about it is that after each topic, there are practice questions, answers, and explanations. If you're going to buy a calculus preparation book, this is the one to have!

Excellent Ventriloquism resource!
Great book for somebody wanting to learn the art of ventriloquism. It is basic and deals with the subject in an easy to understand manner. I highly recommend this book for any beginner.

Great
I think that this book is great for beginers because it teaches basic stuff to advanced stuff. If there was anyone that was interested in becoming a ventriloquist this is the right book for you.

Great book for The Absolute Beginner
Cheery and breezy, this well written, easy to understand book takes you from your first exercises on how to talk without moving your lips, to dealing with the "problem letters" (W, P, B, M, and F) to advanced techniquies such as the distant voice and echoed voice, to writing your own scripts and preparing for performance. Along the way. Mr. King provides you with several routines that you can use to sharpen and refine your skills as well as advice on giving your best when performing. Highly recommended, indeed!

A Very Wealthy Man
Published in Paperback by Hillsboro Press (01 May, 2000)
Author: Marian Denman King
Average review score:

Good clean book!
It is very hard to find a good clean book that you can really enjoy these days. This was a great book that brought the characters to life. When you read about the people and the mountains, you can actually feel like you are there with them. I was so excited when I heard that "It Happened On Kendell Mountain" had a sequel. When I read "A Very Wealthy Man" I felt the same closeness to the characters as I did in the first. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Great Reading
It is so refreshing to read books that are good clean entertainment! I am an avid reader and very much enjoyed this sequel to "It Happened on Kendall Mountain". The characters are so real and become like family to you by the time you finish the book. The great descriptions of the countryside and all the things of that era are very vivid and if you close your eyes you can really picture yourself in the North Georgia Mountains. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books without all the "ugly" things of the world written in every other page.....overall, very good clean interesting reading.

GEORGIA INTRIGUE
We enjoyed the continuation of plot development in this sequel to the previous book, "IT HAPPENED ON KENDALL MOUNTAIN". The characters appear in believable real life situations, centered around the North Georgia mountain area, with actions extending far and wide. The complex story contains much intrigue, folklore, historical development, and excitement. Readers, both young and old, will enjoy this well written book.

The Warlords of Nin (Dragon King Trilogy, No. 2)
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (February, 1997)
Authors: Stephen Lawhead and Steve Lawhead
Average review score:

Adult Quentin & Lawhead "Lite" - not deep, but enjoyable.
"The Warlords of Nin" is the second offering of Stephen Lawhead's "Dragon King" Trilogy, following "In the Hall of the Dragon King", an independent story where readers were introduced to the temple servant turned hero Quentin. In volume two of the series, Quentin has matured into a young adult and made his home and studies in Dekra, far away from his beloved Bria. Along with his companion and friend Toli, Quentin heads back to the royal castle at Askelon at the urgent summons of King Eskevar, who detects an impending danger that threatens the empire. All the signs, including the bizarre and ever-brightening Wolf Star, point to a perilous time.

The danger proves to be a serious one indeed: Nin the Destroyer, with his four warlords, and thousands of soldiers. Quentin and Toli escape from the clutches of one of the warlords along with the defector Myrmior, who turns out to be a most helpful ally. Myrmior's cunning and clever strategy does a great deal to slow the ad!vance of the army of Nin, which threatens to overwhelm Askelon. But in the end, victory depends on the fulfilment of an archaic prophecy about a Priest King, who will bring deliverance armed with a mysterious sword known as the "Zhaligheer" or "Shining One". It seems the Quentin is the fabled Priest King, and in obedience to the prophecy, he undertakes a mission to the lost mines of Ariga, along with the armorer Inchkeith, to search for the rare and fabled lanthanil needed to make the sword. Will he accomplish his mission on time? Is he the one of whom the prophecy speaks who will deliver Askelon from its fearsome foes?

"The Warlords of Nin" is a separate story from "In the Hall of the Dragon King", with Quentin, his companions, and his country being the continuous element. The story is filled with breath-taking scenery and medieval conflict. Courageous knights in shining armour, flashing swords, deadly battles, ancient chivalry - it's all here. The conflict between the! powers of good and evil is in the end a picture of the great spiritual battle of the ages between the powers of light and darkness, God and Satan. Readers familiar with the battle images used by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6, will find the connections obvious. The fight for truth, justice, righteousness and good is in many ways portrays the great struggle against evil in world history. The use and tacit endorsement of astrology, oracles, dreams and prophecy in this struggle is somewhat surprising, but could be explained as being reflecting a pre-Christian era, not unlike the time of the Old Testament before the coming of the Messiah. And so it is appropriate that deliverance comes though the fulfilment of prophecies about a Messianic Priest King. Readers familiar with the Bible will find the notion of a Messianic prophecy about a Priest King most recognizable, because this was precisely the case with Jesus Christ. To say that Quentin is Christ-like is to say too much, yet t!o deny the allusions to Christ's victory for His people is to deny the obvious.

Yet in contrast to the Messianic overtones of Quentin's role in an epic struggle, Lawhead also humanizes Quentin to the point where he is like us, the soldiers in the battle rather than their Deliverer. In the process, Lawhead makes profound observations about personal faith. In the battle, Quentin must learn to trust in the Most High, and be confident that the Most High has plans for him, even when the way is unclear. In total trust, Quentin "should go along with this strange business regardless of my own feelings about it." Says Durwin: "We must not fear for the Most High; he can take care of himself. We must only look to ourselves that we remain faithful to his call." He concludes with an exhortation to faith that applies also to believers in the spiritual war of today: "But if you go beyond your fears and doubts, and follow anyway --ah! strange and wonderful things can happen. Yes, orph!ans can become kings, swords can sprout flames and great enemies can be laid low at a stroke." (p.282-3)

It is this depth of spiritual vision that makes Lawhead's prose all the more compelling and enjoyable. Although essentially a story, it's a story with the power to impart enduring spiritual truths. No, maybe not to the extent of Lawhead's phenomenal achievement in the "Pendragon Cycle". But that doesn't make this book any less enjoyable, or any less of an achievement.

Another great Dragon King book!!
This book is my favorite in the Dragon King Trilogy. This book has lots of action in it. The story continues after Quentin and his friends defeat the evil Nimrood the necromancer. I suggest that you read the first book, In the Hall of the Dragon King, first.

This story is about how Quentin, now a young man, is called unexpectedly to return to Askelon. He had been staying at Dekra, the place of power and mystery. As Quentin and his best friend Toli rides back, they encounter many interesting things. A whole village is scared for some reason and the Wolf Star was growing bigger and bigger every day. But Quentin and Toli trusts in the Most High and returns to Askelon where they meet their good friend Durwin, the hermit and also meet King Eskevar. Quentin quickly knows that something was wrong with the King, the King had grown pale and his face was gaunt. In other words, the King was deathly ill. He knew that someting was amiss in Mesandor.

Meanwhile, Theido and Ronsard, the two brave knights, (Ronsard is my favorite character!) had been sent out from King Eskevar to sort of scout the land. They realize that something was wrong, just like the King had said. Whole villages had been burnt, there was nothing but a enormous black spot on the ground. As they travel on, they see a nearly dead person in one of the burnt villages. They learn little from him, but he tells them that the enemy's name was Nin the Destroyer before he dies. Theido and Ronsard then returns to Askelon.

Quentin and Toli had been also searching for any signs of the enemy. They meet Esme, a rather fierce girl who was secretly a princess. On their way back to Askelon, they see the village called Illem burning. They quickly ride to Illem and meet the villagers running in terror. They are quickly surrounded by many soldiers of one of the warlords of Nin. Toli and Esme escapes but Quentin is captured.

Will Quentin escape? What will happen when the Ningaal reach Askelon?

This book is definently something you have to read! I love the Dragon King Trilogy and I have read them over and over again. Happy Reading!

I have read this trilogy three times. loved every time!!
these books remind me of the "The lion the witch and the wardrobe" if you liked that you will love these books!!!!:)
